Hm... I'd say it's something in FC being a jerk. GIMP is quite well-protected against its configuration files becoming unreadable due to version mismatches; If it's a major or minor version difference (going on the X.Y.Z definition), it'll make a new directory (~/.gimp-X.Y) for new settings and ignore any older (or newer) versions. Plus, if anything WAS wrong, it'd complain first before giving up and dying.

I'm not sure how GnuCash stores its data files, but I'd imagine it's somewhat similar. In the "it'll complain before dying" sense. Unless it's dumping to console and you're missing it.

So, most likely FC-related.
