I'm curious about how predictive people think Atwood's vision is. How close is Jimmy and Crake's world to our contemporary one, and how close do you think it is to the one we'll live in or the one our children will grow up in

We sell wire and light bulbs... I have a RFID badge to walk through doors, three security levels to my desk since I'm in HR. Most of our upper management types live in gated communities. We have a security guard and cameras everywhere.

I hate it. They are rich and paranoid.

I can't even imagine some of the corporations that deal with controversial or secretive things.

We aren't far. A few attacks on corporations, just a few that make the news, and you'll see compounds popping up. But the pleb workers will still be bussed in from the cities.

From personal experience, getting into the White House was easier than getting to the corporate office of Sylvan, the K-12 Education company.

If you replace "money" with "race," then U.S. history has recorded several instances of white communities in Virginia and other parts of the South fighting the integration of blacks because they don't want "those people" bringing down the quality of their precious neighborhoods. I can't see where it would be any different in a corporate mindset
