what started as a simple shameless quest to win an ARC of The Demon's Lexicon (in which I have failed at every turn) has led to a habitual obsession with entering book contests everywhere! I have yet to win a free book but I am really enjoying the fact that for the first time in years I am venturing forth off LJ

i know, god, earlier today i read some lamentation by a very well-established author about how sci-fi/fantasy was so lacking these days, and I was just like, well maybe that's because you obviously aren't reading YA fantasy, because everything you're looking for is, oh, you know, RIGHT THERE.

THIS. A lot of srs bsns genre authors could stand to learn a lesson from YA lit about how to balance themes and character development and etc. etc. with still telling a cracking good yarn and retaining, you know, an actual sense of wonder and so forth.

(Not that YA isn't a bit of a pot-luck as well, ahaha god, but on the whole? Authors who are writing for the YA or '16-60' market turn out so much more of what I want to see than 'real' sf/f authors that it isn't even funny.)

It's not necessarily the song that makes me dance, but the whole video makes me want to move it move it all around. All the ladies are completely awesome in it.
