On the train, Touya sits stiffly, his legs primly tucked together at the knees and his hands folded carefully in his lap. He looks twelve years old again, and lost, and Hikaru sits half a person away and tries not to look at him and thinks at him, you're beautiful, you're beautiful, you're beautiful, I love you, I love you, I love you, until he hears it in the rhythm of the train grating against the tracks.
That's the point where I went into my happy place, and I'm still there now. I'm going to be thinking of this on the train to Shibuya tomorrow, thanks for that.
Aaaah I love these boys. And Touya-papa, I love him so much and I'll never get tired of people exploring the dynamics between him and Touya and Hikaru.
Hikaru looks at him. “It’s always about me and your son,” he says.
“Ah,” says Touya’s dad. “So it’s like that.”
“Yeah,” Hikaru answers, meeting Touya Kouyou’s eyes. “It is.”
Yes. YES. It IS.

Oh, but I do have one very small critique:
Even stupider than the time you asked me why we weren’t leaving a tip at McDonald’s.
I love this line. I do! It's just that... tipping at restaurants basically isn't done here. If you try, they either refuse or run after you to give the money back. So I don't really think that Touya would assume he needs to leave a tip! Which saddens me because I think the line's hilarious.

AHHH HEARTS IN NOTEBOOKS, I BET HIKARU FINDS THEM ONE DAY AND THINKS TOUYA'S GOT A CRUSH ON SOME GIRL AND FREAKS OUT FOR NO REASON AND TOUYA'S JUST LIKE WHY AM I IN LOVE WITH YOU.
Shounen Onmyouji!!!!! I've heard so many good things about that show. DUDE ABE NO SEIMEI. It's actually kind of ironic you're bringing this up now because I'm trying to finish this Hikago fic that I began last year, and in it Hikaru's favorite movie is Onmyouji because he's a gay, gay boy and it's a gay, gay movie it's set in the Heian era and Abe No Seimei, who's the main character, reminds him of Sai.
You should totally see the live-action film Onmyouji and its sequel Onmyouji II. It's completely wonderfully hysterical and cheesy and awesome. It has nothing in common with the anime as far as I can tell from your synopsis except that they both borrow Seimei for their plot.

He runs his thumb over Touya’s, down to the underside of his wrist. It’s supposed to be soothing, but it just makes Hikaru feel strange and overheated. Touya shivers and flips his palm over in Hikaru’s hand for better access. He does it like it’s the most natural thing since their Go.
This is amazing and lovely. I love that they're so close that Touya reacts naturally like that even though they aren't usually that close physically -- they haven't talked about it or done anything about it but on some level they're already together like that. And oh, that shivery moment! Your description is wonderful.
Touya makes me laugh when he pales and says formally, "I would never do anything so simplistic," as if he's horrified that Shindou would even suggest that. Hee!

Hiiiiii, thank you! Shindou being constantly distracted by how sexy Touya is? this is canon. C A N O N. Or maybe that's just me, when I watch canon? Oh, dear.
i love that you loved the line about their Go because I wasn't sure about it and thought it might be too over the top, but hey, it's Hikago, I don't think any warm-fuzz we could write would begin to approach the level of warm-fuzz that is canon itself. So easy to see why I love this show. :(
I LOVE TOUYA. Sorry, just had to throw that out there.
I am sure that the reason Touya makes a habit of saying Hikaru's name as breathlessly and passionately as possible whenever he can has nothing whatsoever to do with exacting subtle revenge against Hikaru for saying his name that way, in that voice. Nothing at all, because Touya is a Very Nice Young Man. Who never ever gasps out Hikaru's name in public just to watch Hikaru go flustered and distracted.

The whole thing is excellent! The beginning is deliciously angsty, even so that I wondered if the ending would be happy and worried that my heart would break if it wouldn't be, and Shindou and Touya arguing and then making up is just perfect. It's sweet and very satisfying and not over the top at all, not least because I agree about the warm-fuzz levels in canon being completely unapproachable!
Touya is a Very Nice Young Man. Who never ever gasps out Hikaru's name in public just to watch Hikaru go flustered and distracted.
I think I'm going to just think about that for while. ♥

Thank you! I can't really justify the ridiculously angsty parts, either, haha. I actually wasn't even sure I was going to be able to justify ANY of this fic til I got to the very last line. though really if I could I'd just write them squabbling and angsting and making up over and over again through, like, eternity, because that moment when they realize that they are each other's never ever gets old to me! Ahhhh. Now I'm all warm and fuzzy myself. :(

I made this post last year that is basically my FAVORITE POST EVER which is saying something considering how old this lj is, but it's because it's all about the incoherent flaily qualities of Hikaru no Go, and every time I reread it I get all schmuzzy and wibbly and, well, googly.
