Howdy

Hey, I just found this awesome community and decided to join. I have worked for Books-A-Million for two and a half years, and to this day (which, by the way, is also Employee Discount Day!) I still wonder why I have stayed. Ever-changing co-workers, for one, and the most interesting menagerie of customers, for seconds. Anyway, I am the SWIFT ( Read more... )

I feel your pain oh so well. I've been at BAM for a little over two and a half years, have seen the constantly changing coworkers (and for that matter, including myself, a total of *17* different managers work in our store), and the insane customers. I often wonder why I stay, but something keeps me around. I'm crazy enough to have said I would take the GM spot in a few months, so there's some kind of miscommunication in my brain with the parts of me that can't stand the place.

And that special edition Harry Potter was totally a salebook for I think $29 just a few months ago. Stupid manager, even more without the receipt! I dread Harry Potter night this year, even more because I remember last time and somehow have a feeling BAM again won't have nearly enough books in our stores. Sigh.

And also, if Harry Potter night wasn't bad enough as it is, it's the same exact night of the only DMB concert anywhere close. Damn you, Harry Potter!

Okay, I'm done now. For real.

What's SWIFT?

I work at Anonymous UK Bookstore Chain and have done for nearly four years. I don't know why I stay either, except. . .

no, we get an extra 10% on the first of the month... makes it 30%.

Ah. That doesn't seem like enough.

I get 35% off every day - and even that isn't enough for me... I use my sister's discount, she gets 40% off. That is how you feed an addiction!

Yeah... we just took Goodkind's newest book, Chainfire, down to 20% from 30%, I think... Which made me sad, because at the rate I was going I could have gotten it for half off if I'd just had the money ;_;

Hello! I'm a BAM employee as well, but I've only been working there for 2 1/2 to 3 months... ish. I enjoy it for the most part. I run customer service mostly, but occasionally do Cash, and am the "official YuGiOh League Leader" or something like that every saturday. (yay. so excited.)

The only reason I'm looking forward to July 16th, is so that I can get my copy. Everyone else can bug off. *Eats the brats* hehe not really. But I will not appreciate it if I have to stay extra-late Friday just to turn around and come in early to run YuGiOh on saturday >.< Of course, our managers are the kind quite fond of making you close one night and open the next morning *dies*

I've been working at the Bam for almost 3 years now. i might be becoming a manager soon. but i don't know why i stay. The pay sucks, customers are dicks, the GM is a bitch and is two-faced, and did i say the pay sucks. i've been there for 3 years and i am one of the better employees there (hence i've been there 2nd longest when everyone else has only been there like a few months) and people who are getting hired now get paid more than me. What crap is that? Yes i do get a raise soon so what!? I'll be making probably as much as the new people are. The company in general just sucks. My boss thinks that we want to make bam our life but none of us do. My boss holds a grudge over people who want a second job and is against a female swift person. She doesn't like *girls* lifting heavy things. My friend has been doing swift for more than a year and is getting criticized for being female. She is the best damn Swift person you could have. She normally breaks down our 5-7 pallet trucks in day and just recently worked like a 16 hour ( ... )
