mixed up title award (of the day)

Apr 16, 2007 08:56

today's mixed-up title award was given by my sister, a bookstore owner:

Woman calls asking for "Lala Goes to Dartmouth."

Uhh, do you know an author?

Pullman, P-u-l-l-m-a-n.

Do you mean... Lyra's Oxford?

Yes!
(sigh)

booksearch, funny, children's books

TinkyWinky got into Cambridge, but Dipsy never got further than an NVQ, while Po, I'm afraid, is now a night manager at the 7/11.

hah. excellent. my favourite this week: someone looking for 'tractor factor,' from which i immediately derived 'a short history of tractors in ukranian,' because i'm used to the dumb little ways of my customers. XD

that is classic. I hope you don't mind that I am going to tell my fellow booksellers when I go in to work tonight. They are all Pullman fans and will LOVE it.

That really does sound like a porn title, and yet I immediatly knew what she wanted even before I saw the author's name!

One of my faves, though it was directed at a colleague and not me, was

"Doctor Doolittle speaks Mandarin"

Any guesses as to the answer?

She got it in one, not sure if I'd have been so clever, but then I was only Grade Two at the time (the definition of which is 'can write own name and knows how to spell archaeology'.)
