Even better when all they want is a summer job, or maybe part-time, with evenings off, yeah, and maybe weekends too.

I know! I had a friend in a class a few semesters ago who I had all primed to apply here when we needed some extra help. Then she found out she would have to work weekends. Yeah, she didn't apply. *facepalm*

Recently a guy came in seeking a summer job (which happens every single day although we went as far as putting up a sign in the doorway that says we aren't hiring) and I told him we have never hired temps in summer, although we hire them for Christmas (well, if you can call Sept-Jan Christmas). He asked me why, and I said they wouldn't be much use, since it takes about a month to find your feet and learn everything.

He couldn't believe there could be that much to know that it would take a month. I just didn't know what to say after that. So I showed him a book display and then buggered off.

Haha, obviously he doesn't ever want to have a job where he actually have to work then.

We're currently having a problem like this. Aside from the unending stream of rando's who wander in asking for jobs (and the calls..oh god the calls. If you're too lazy to come over here in person, my manager's going to literally going to laugh at you on the phone when you ask if we're hiring)we put an Ad in the paper about 3 months ago for a position. They automatically upload it to the paper's website 'free of charge'. Well, we filled the position and then asked the paper to remove the ad. They didn't and say they can't. So, now when we tell people we're not hiring they look at us like we're lying, then they mention the ad like we didn't know it was there and would have forgotten that we needed to fill a space and then leave like we just ran over their kitty.

At least in your case it's somewhat understandable, but people seriously need to get the hint when we say we're not hiring. So what if there's an ad in the paper? We could have filled the position that morning for all they know. Idiots.

Hope you can get that taken care of soon though. I used to do the design for my college paper and it's REALLY easy to just delete things off the template. :/

At least they really want to work at a bookstore. Heh. We actually would like to hire someone, but the last person who walked in and applied said "is this a library or something?".

You have my sympathies. I've had to reject many an "intellectual" teen, the only one I actually felt bad about was a young man with a thirst for Palahniuk.
