[ A ✶ PHONE]

[This is all a little too much for Twilight Sparkle. Hyu-mans? Strange technology? No library access? Luckily, she's learned something from Pinkie Pie -- and that's that sometimes there are things that can't be explained. You just have to believe in them. And really, she's trying her best. After yet another exhausting day of ( Read more... )

[]Hol is naturally minding his own business around the house... and was about to take an afternoon nap, but the couch was occupied.]

I always used my fingers, works well enough usually.

Unfortunately, not every species possesses fingers. Including, but not limited to, ponies.

Oh.

Right, yeah, they don't! [Talking horses aren't weird at all.] Need a "hand", love?

Well, I don't want to impose or anything, but...

There should be ways to work around that. You shouldn't need magic to turn pages. Even if your hands are out of commission, there are alternatives. Even if it's just a long pencil with a slightly gummy eraser on the end.

[He hesistates, then mutters] ...I did once have a Page-inator for that time that I broke all of my fingers....

A long pencil? [She ponders this possibility for a moment.] Hmm, that might not be such a bad idea! I'd have to hold it in my mouth, but if it means I'd be able to read...!

[SCIENCE? Twilight's ears perk up.] A page-inator? What's that?

A pencil! A very primitive solution, obviously the choice of last resort...

Ah! My Page-Inator! It was a device that could adapt to any variety of paper stock, or book size, and little rubber fingers would flip each page, and there were indexing options, and I was going to add so much more... but then my fingers healed and I bought a Kindle and I had to re-purpose the little rubber fingers for my Hot Dog Vendor Revenge-Inator....

But I digress. [Frequently.]

I... see. [The first part made sense!] It does sound rather useful. If I had my horn, I could easily invent something like that... but if I had my horn, I wouldn't have this problem in the first place!

I would imagine hands are better than... horns for page turning. But that might be just me.

Well, first of all, I don't have hands, being a pony and all. Secondly, I don't actually turn pages with my horn. That would be stupid. My horn is the source of my magic, which allows me to turn the pages without having to touch them.

...Oh, you're another of those talking ponies. I get it now.

I'm sure there's some nice person -- one with hands! -- who'd be willing to to help you turn the pages until you get your magic back.
