Tale of the body thief is a very cliche plot (and Lestat trusts an admitted klepto with his poweful immortal body, passport, and Cash and a few days. Suuure he's coming back... Right...) but it does have some darkly funny moments.

The thing that bothered me most about Tale of the Body Thief wasn't actually the cliche, it was what Lestat did with the human body he was "borrowing". If I remember right (It's been years) there was an impressively un-sexy sex scene that was at least border-line non-con, among other remarkably stupid things. It actually managed to make me hate Lestat.
