Armand is one sick little vampire

I love Anne Rice's earlier books: Interview with the vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The queen of the damned, and even (for comic relief) Tale of the body thief but as some of you already know I completely dislike her later books (anything of hers after 1995 ( Read more... )

fantasy isn't always fantastic, kill it with fire, sex scene failure, i love this author but what in the world, so called horror, author last names m-s, buddy can you spare me an editor?, there is a plot where somewhere, thank god it was just fiction

"Anne's contractual obligations of the 1990s to have two books a year for five years.".....explains a hell of a lot....

Yes, someone had told me in the mid-nineties Anne was under contract to do two books a year. One Vampire Chronicle and one other. She cheated this by starting her New Tales of the vampires. There were only two ever written but she pretended it was a whole new book series even though it went into the continuity and unvirse of her Vampire Chronicles and actually were pieces OF The Vampire Chronicles (such as Pandora).

Yes, what he claims he did to Claudia is something he would do, it's not physically possible that he could have done it though.

By the way, in case you didn't notice, my avatar (buddy icon) is from the Lestat musical.

Marius whipping Armand. Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew. Ew.

The woman's fetish for pedophilia, rape, and S&M really, truly, gross me out. I believe everyone has a right to their fantasies, but I personally could not have any less interest in reading about them--and it's beginning to look like she doesn't have any other type of fantasy. @_@

I stopped reading after chapter two because I thought the book was boring, and was considering trying it again, and now I'm very glad I didn't.

You were probably right to stop. I'm not comfortable with what she did in the later books.

To be honest, Tale of the Body Thief was one of those "WTF" books, I hated it, Then I couldn't finish Memnoch The Devil, and I never tried to read anything after that except The Vampire Armand, which to be honest, is at least somewhat true to the style of Interview and The Vampire Lestat, in that it's a completely different take on things. Did you know that three different witnesses to the same event will tell it three (Entirely) different ways? That aside, The Vampire Armand horrified me enough to hold my attention, but not in the way that a horror book should... Oh no, this one was just sick enough I had to go into Psychology mode and analyze it. BUT, after Tale of the Body Thief, it really didn't come as too much of a surprise. Non-con seems to be a recurring theme at this point. All that aside, Armand always was my favorite vampire in the series, despite his flaws. And it does give background that at least tells you Why he's such a sadist.

The thing about Armand's story is Armand IS the one who first told his story in The Vampire Lestat. Also the contradictions in his story aren't so much 'Oh, it's another perspective.' he described things that physically could not have happened. He out right contradicts himself and Marius here.

Tale of the body thief is a very cliche plot (and Lestat trusts an admitted klepto with his poweful immortal body, passport, and Cash and a few days. Suuure he's coming back... Right...) but it does have some darkly funny moments.

Ah, true, But then again, as far as Armand goes, I always assumed he was lying, therefore, I assumed that the discrepancies were slip-ups in his lies. Also... I couldn't finish the darn thing, I made it a little more than half way, then I had to give up. Rice is one sick puppy...

The thing that bothered me most about Tale of the Body Thief wasn't actually the cliche, it was what Lestat did with the human body he was "borrowing". If I remember right (It's been years) there was an impressively un-sexy sex scene that was at least border-line non-con, among other remarkably stupid things. It actually managed to make me hate Lestat.

Yes. Lestat was about to have sex with a waitress while in the human body and she shouted for him to use a condom. His response was 'What the Hell's a condom!?' and then dove in before he could stain the be sheets. She did want to have sex but he didn't understand what she meant about condom. And so she was really pissed off.
