This wasn't ever required reading for me, but I know a few people who have had to read this for school.

I read it on my own and found it completely and utterly boring.

I had to read it in 8th grade in my history class and it was so awful. It was one of those books that you read, but you don't really read? It's like, I read every single dang page, but I barely remembered each page once I was moved on to the next. It did not stick with me at all.

I totally understand how you feel. I had to reread so many parts of that book just so I could remember what was going on.

Yeaaaaaaah, this was on the Marine Corps reading list when I was in (it's not anymore; they've actually put some decent books on there), and I can tell you, between this and "Rifleman Dodd" I caught some really good naps, that's for sure.

Now I read the unabridged Les Mis without pause. I have read interminable five volume fantasy novels in a week. But this tiny thing took me an entire summer to read for my 11th grade history class and was it ever excruciating. :)
