Required Reading That Shouldn't Be Required

This wasn't ever required reading for me, but I know a few people who have had to read this for school.

I read it on my own and found it completely and utterly boring.

Really? Cuz...it doesn't come off that way. It comes off as rather...boring. I mean, couldn't you do the same thing in a way that doesn't make me read the same sentence 3 or 4 times to understand what it is and what's going on?

This book was awful. Even my teacher (who was new to the course that year) said she couldn't believe they made us read it.

When I was in... I think 10th grade, my English class had a gigantic textbook we not-so-affectionately called Big Red. Big Red contained several entire novels and novellas. The Red Badge of Courage was one of them. I read it. But I cannot tell you anything about it, except that it was in that gigantic textbook and it was about the American Civil War.

The size of the book left far more of an impression than the content.

(That book also contained Great Expectations, which I didn't entirely enjoy reading but which at least left an impression. It's hard to forget about Miss Havisham, at least.)
