The novel I've chosen to review is "Wicked as they Come" by Delilah S. Dawson. I have a very large soft spot for steampunk and when I found this, I knew better based on the tag line: "Step right up! Test your mettle- and your heart ( Read more... )

They track down the villain who wants to eliminate all the Blud people from the world, and his plan is to make Letitia go back to her world and... get a disease and bring it back to Sang. That's the brilliant plan. And if she doesn't agree to this plan she will lose Criminy forever, but while she is very concerned about this, she also finds the time to gripe about her outfit, which isn't as pretty as her "Gothic bombshell" clothing.

LOL!

That tells me everything I need to know about this book and why I shouldn't read it. Thanks for the good review.

Agh! Steampunk romance is always so disappointing. It could be so awesome, and yet it never seems to hit the magic of romance or steampunk. The only book I can think of that did is Clockwork Heart by Dru Pagliosotti, which is pretty good. A million times more enjoyable than this seems to be. And maybe the Gail Carriger Parasol Protectorate books, but they are super silly, light and frothy fun.

Also avoid at all costs Steamed by Katie McAllister. It could be titled "Let Me Tell You About My Penis: It's Hard". I realize that it's an erotic romance, but it also switches first-person narration between the male and female leads, and I refuse to believe that any man thinks about his own penis that much or in that much detail. I couldn't finish it for exactly that reason.

Ah, Steamed. AKA "What do you mean, google image searching 'steampunk' isn't enough to build a believable world on?" :p One of the few books that literally made me gnash my teeth.

I LOVE the Parasol Protectorate series so much.

I read another 'romance' steampunk called "Iron Duke" or something like that, and it was basically "my dick, want it?".

There was another steampunk book for teens I got, and it was just 20 shades of awful. I have half a mind to take it out of the library again, simply to rip on it for this community.

No reason to be nervous! This was a wonderful review. You had me grinning with your snarky commentary. This book is bad for women and readers everywhere.

It was something along the lines of "It was a dull grey colour, with none of the flair of my gorgeous dresses. And I was even disappointed in the trousers".

Yeah, when I'm going to save the love of my life, clothing is not the first thing in my mind.
