For some reason the only thing I can focus on is how the goodreads page has the wrong book's synopsis...

I'm a Goodreads librarian so I changed the status to the blurb on the back of the book (the italicized bit at the beginning of this post). When I hit update, the pop up said it might take a while to change the synopsis. I can see the changes, but I'm also logged in to the site.

Ug. I hate, hate, hate all the rape as love, she really wanted it, it is okay if she's turned on, and it isn't really rape if she secretly wants it cliches. Do not want. Warning please, author. Let people know so they know to avoid your book (or read it if that's what they really like.

I know some people have rape fantasies, but I still think those should be written so they are clearly actually consentual or so that both characters know this is actually rape and not okay. And whatever the case, rape always needs to be warned. In this case, it should show up in the blurb on the back of the book. There is no excuse.

Don't sane people with those kind of turn ons have safe words?

Yes, in reall life. The problem is, a lot of authors don't see a diffween writing a rape fantasy in their stories where there is clear consent and writing rape as love because they have a rape fantasy.

That sex scene so belongs in weepingcock. In fact, I am guessing most of the sex in that book belongs there. lol

I am sorry you read that. I hope it didn't cause any lasting damage. o_O

Yes, this. And also, arousal doesn't equal consent. Nor does secretly maybe being interested in the rapist. The only thing that equals consent is actual consent.

I think I read this book when I was 15. I remember not liking the ending. But I have to be honest, the most memorable character in the book after all this time was not either the male or female protagonist, it was the nursemaid. That's kind of a pathetic statement about her book in and of itself....

A minor would be bored senseless halfway through the first chapter.

This kind of thing is so disgusting. I'm so sick of rape justified in literature.

Side note: I'm glad to know that McCullough was called out on her plagiarism of "The Blue Castle". I was struck by the similarities when I read her book, but I didn't know it was public knowledge.
