It must be said the suspenders are pretty jaunty. Though I'll confess I was going fond of the hilarious plaid suit by the end of its run . . . I think maybe it brainwashed me a little!

...You know, I'm not entirely sure, but I think Princess Zelda may be the only fictional character ever to pull off a convincing cross-dress in a visual medium.

Mulan does pretty well for herself! They magically thicken her eyebrows and everything.

(The best one I've seen in a kdrama is probably Coffee Prince, in which the heroine's level of masculinity is honestly about a match for the rest of the cast.)

I was really hoping I'd be able to go with the suspenders, because those things with the bow tie are just... just... I can't even come up with the right term for it. And then I saw Cha Song Joo's pirate outfit and thought it couldn't be topped. But the fake glasses and mustache were just too much to pass up.

Actually, I love all of them. Even (or maybe especially) Se Gi, the ineligible one. It's the rip in his hat coupled with the expression of "what the fuck am I doing wearing this" on his face that makes it so priceless.

I never realized starting out this episode how full of hard choices it would be, man. (Poor Se Gi! You can see his trauma and pain at being forced into that hat. YOU CAN SEE SKY THROUGH IT.)

...See, I feel that the striped dress is infinitely more piratical than the black outfit! Although the headscarf thingy is pretty ridiculous. But I looked at that dress and thought LOL HALLOWEEN PIRATE.

(I also dislike the striped outfit, but we pretty consistently disagree on these things. *laughing* It's so shapeless and unflattering, and then the shoulder-rope thing!)

However, okay, the purple polka-dotted suspenders are DECIDEDLY EXCELLENT, and the straw hat + pissyface combo is truly hilarious. But I had to vote for the unconvincing crossdressing, because lol unconvincing crossdressing!

It's not that the black dress is in and of itself explicitly piratical, it's that it's a stylish lady version of Dread Pirate Roberts! Whom we know dresses all in black with a headscarf. *patient*

(*giggling* See, I kind of love the shoulder-rope thing. It's a cool visual detail! I would agree about shapeless and unflattering if it wasn't worn on someone who could pull it off - personally I would never wear it, for example - but it works on her, and it's super stylistically interesting. I would vote for it on Project Runway!)

(That is fair! I mean, I still disagree, but it's fair. *laughing* I just don't think she carries off shapeless-and-unflattering well enough to make up for the fact that... well... it's still shapeless and unflattering, and I go YOU ARE A PRETTY LADY, WHY ARE YOU WEARING A STRIPED SLEEVELESS SACK AND DOING TERRIBLE THINGS TO YOUR HAIR at the computer a lot. But we have slightly different fashion aesthetics to start with, I and the costumers of this show.)

And heeee, believe me, it went against my known habits too! I kept going, "I'm awake, and it's only... ten o'clock? Really? You know, I could go back to bed for a bit..." except for my silly morning person parents.

(Besides, it's not that shapeless! If it had no waist, I would be much more on your side of things. Also I will defend her hair with that outfit FOREVER. But at least we can agree on the glory of wonderful unconvincing crossdressing!)

My brother was so disappointed in me this weekend for going to bed no later than two in the morning. He thinks I'm getting old!
