I have been reading a reasonable amount of manga and comics recently! (This year's list has already more than doubled last year's, which more than doubled 2008's. If this trend continues, by the time the year 2020 comes around I will be reading approximately enough volumes of graphic stuff that if it was piled up in a row it would reach the moon ( Read more... )

Ohhh, After School Nightmare. Uh. I sped through that in like two days after I read a recommendation of it, and...well, it's reasonably entertaining (although it made me weirdly uneasy sometimes, especially to do with Sou), but the ending is equal parts "oh, that totally made sense for these characters!" and "--wait, that did not make any sense at all for the rest of the characters, what is this I don't even". So you have been warned!

Ahahaha OKAY! I AM WARNED. (Sou so far seems mostly like a gigantic jerkface; I assume/trust that this is going to get complicated, but I have no idea if it will get complicated in a way that makes me okay with him.)

(It does get complicated! He is a crazy giant jerkface. Although eventually revealed to be not as much of a giant jerkface as he could be. And yet, he is still a crazy giant jerkface. Complicated, yes.)

Bayou is so gorgeous, I've been waiting on the second volume for awhile. I mean I could read it online I guess but I don't really like the site's format. :/ Also I love Bisco Hatori's little side notes! =D She comes off as a very fun person (well you'd have to be to come up with something like Ouran High School Host Club).

It's coming out in January! I am incredibly excited and will probably be putting it on preorder; I got this volume out of the library, but I have a strong wish to give Jeremy Love my money.

I love Bisco Hatori's sidenotes in general too, they are generally really adorable! (Although my favorite mangaka for adorable sidenotes is probably Hiromu Arakawa, who is LOLARIOUS.)

It is indeed very pretty! - although 'pretty' is maybe not the right worde for all the lovingly-depicted nightmare imagery.

*avoids 20th Century Boys spoilers*

I did love the author's note where Bisco Hatori cheerfully explains that she and her assistants spend a lot of time imagining Kyouya in undignified situations to cheer themselves up. Kyouya trips and falls! HILARIOUS. Kyouya forgets his cell phone at home! THE FUNNIEST THING. I find this excellent and may adopt this method of entertaining myself in dull situations myself. Oh, I forgot about that one! And I just spent ten minutes giggling to myself over it. I'm going to do this forever from now on. :D (Also also also: Gokusen/Kyouya Doing Funny Things would be the best crossover in the world.) Bisco Hatori = win win win ( ... )

It is the best way to pass an afternoon! Somehow Kyouya tripping and falling over is funnier than ANYONE ELSE tripping and falling over. (IT'S PLAUSIBLE. I was actually just thinking that during the Kasanoda arc - I bet Yankumi knows the Kasanoda family . . . because obviously Gokusen crossovers are ALL I THINK ABOUT now.)

Hmm. Well, I'm only halfway through, so right now the biggest difference I feel between the anime and the manga is that the anime (while remaining hilarious) puts a much stronger emphasis on character development in the second half so it can bring things to some kind of dramatically satisfying ending; the manga has more room to be slow-paced with the characterization and draw things out. But I understand that things show up in later volumes that are almost kind of plotty? And I'll be interested to see how it handles those.

There really is nothing funnier than imagining Kyouya falling on his ass. Especially when I try to imagine how the host club and the ladies would react to seeing that. I always picture this moment of supreme shock, but can't get past that. XD

Ouran is fun times despite the occasional ragey moment, but I think I prefer the anime. (Shocking, for me.) I liked After School Nightmare, too, and loved Kureha's character arc. The ending was a total mindfuck. <8O

There's this little sketch in the back of one of the manga volumes with Kyouya forgetting his cell phone, and Haruhi and the twins having to sneak away and hide behind something so they can LAUGH AND LAUGH. And in my heart this is canon, and it happened just like that.

The anime is one of my favorites! So far I am enjoying the manga very much as well, but then again so far they have been very nearly the same, so we'll see what happens once it gets into the new bits.

Hahaha, IF NOTHING ELSE from the comments of this post I have come to the conclusion that the ending is clearly memorable!
