Wow, thanks for the link - what a splendid building! My own favourite is Bristol Central Library. Its reference, archive and reading areas are as hushed and venerable as the outside suggests, and the fiction / general borrowing rooms are warm and friendly.

Although I'm sure they must be marvellous on many levels, modern libraries just don't have that special ambiance felt in old buildings. The National Library of Wales really does smell of books!

What's the first book you remember borrowing from the library? Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH … I don’t remember any earlier books. This was not long before I managed to finagle myself an adult card, anyway.
What's the last book(s) you borrowed from your library? I think it might have been Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
