Where is your nearest library? How long does it take you to get there? 20 miles up the road in the "big town" at least 20 minutes - more if there's a slow poke on the road
How often do you use it? seldom. It doesn't stock things I'm interested in
How old were you when you started visiting libraries? I remember once taking out a book from the library in the town we lived in when I was in second grade. Then we moved - way out into the country. There was no library until I went to high school in a small city two towns away. The library - small but there - was next to the high school. Oh joy!
What's the first book you remember borrowing from the library? I think that first book was about indians. The country school had books in it. I remember a book about John Peter Zenger and a novel about a girl during the Revolution.
What's the last book(s) you borrowed from your library? A history of Wales
Where's your favourite library? What's special about it? I've known lots of libraries in my time. I greatly miss the County Library of Morris County New Jersey and the wonderful library and librarians of the town I lived in there. There were so many new books! Things that were my favorites and things that were new to explore.
What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen in a library? Lol maybe the guy who tried to pick me up in the stacks?
Do you like your librarians? Do you even know them? I just met the new librarians at the local library. As Rick said to Louis. "It looks like the start of a beautiful friendship" I've known lots of librarians. I was one. I worked in the college library in college.
What's the most helpful thing you've found (out)in a library? An oddly phrased question. I regret that some libraries are neglecting books in favor of other media. There is some thing transformative about taking out every book on a subject and immersing yourself in a different world. I remember taking out a huge arm load of books on Venice. Surrounded by art and history I lived in Venice for several weeks.
Do you borrow before you buy, instead of buying, or randomly alongside purchased books? Regrettably the local library does not have books in the areas I'm interested in so I have to buy
