Readdressing Snape

On another note, I found THIS ESSAY to be very interesting regarding Snape. I still hold to the camp that says that Dumbledore's opinion of Snape is the important one. But I definitely see this person's points and find the OotP evidence particularly damning.

See, all of this would be very convincing if this was RL. Snape would probably get hung from the highest tree based on this evidence. But the problem I have with all of this fanwanking is that JKR decides whether or not that timeline is correct and whether or not Snape saw Pettigrew on the map and whether or not Voldemort sacrificed Snape's cell of Death Eaters to position Snape at Hogwarts. So reconstructing all this evidence means nothing if JKR has some big secret she's been holding back all this time--or one she hasn't made up yet. I have my doubts about these massive conspiracy theories simply because I don't think that JKR writes that way. I think she has a story, she gives out some clues, holds back others and writes the books. Before HBP, there was no way in hell we could have fanwanked that Snape was the Prince--at least not for the reasons he ended up being the Prince--because she simply hadn't given us that information. Not everything in the HP-verse has been hinted at or preordained ( ... )

I read an essay prior to HBP about the shipping circumstances which made basically the same point: That if this was RL Harry might logically wind up with someone else, but that since it isn't, the author of the essay thought all signs pointed to H/G ( ... )
