So today I left the house without my 2 children and my husband because they were napping. Well my first stop was my moms house and she asked were my kids were. I told her and she was all "You left them there with your Husband sleeping???" She was freaked out because of all the stories you here about children leaving the house or getting hurt badly ( Read more... )

If I didn't nap when my kids nap, I'd be worthless. I think your mom is WAY overreacting.

Well obviously people HAVE to sleep at some point with the kids in the house - but I can kind of see your Mom's point here - only because of how my husband is.

He sleeps so sound that NOTHING wakes him. If I were to leave him alone with the kids during the day, it would not be at naptime! I learned that the hard way - coming home to a markered wall and a kid who had drank too much motrin that he somehow managed to get open.

But, assuming you are a "normal" parent who can hear your children moving around, I would say it's fine. There have been plenty of times that I took a nap while the kids did. Now that my kids are bigger (6,4 and 3) - they know to wake me up if they wake up first.

I nap all the time when the LO is napping. However, I can see your Mom's point only if Husband does not know that he's the only adult in the house with the kids. You know, the whole "Hrm, there's a kid-noise, wife is around to take care of it zzzzzzzzz" With considerable effort, I can tune my child out (or at least muffle his impact) and sleep if my husband is up looking after him (or if I thought he was, I imagine).

both of my kids flat out refuse to nap (well the older is almost 5 so that's normal).

this means i only get to nap if my husband is home to watch the kids. i wouldn't feel comfortable napping while my children were awake.

then you and your husband better take shifts at night because OMGZ NOT EVERYONE CAN BE ASLEEP.

sometimes a nap in the day is all you get. at the most i would babygate toddlers in their rooms. things happen to kids when parents are awake.
