Female Circumcision

Apr 10, 2009 12:24

I have put some thought into female circumcision. In my religion, circumcising a boy creates a bond between him and G-d, so I was wondering why not do the same thing for girls? Girls should share a bond with G-d as well. Is it hypocritical or sexist to be against female circumcision but for male circumcision?

We should seriously just start cutting off everything.

yeah...I wish my parents had cut my feet off when I was born. They're so big! If they had just cut them when I was born...*sigh*

You know there are starving children in the U.S. that would kill to have a big ass. Maybe you should donate it!

It's not cutting off the same parts. Just because it uses the same words doesn't mean it's the same procedure. So no, no hypocrisy in being in favor of one and against the other.

That's not true. There are various levels of female circumcision. The one comparable to male circumcision involves removal of the clitoral hood, which is analogous to the foreskin. Everything else is left intact.

True enough.

Actually wouldn't it add some value to the post if the different types of FGM were explained as a sort of definition under the post, so everyone knew what everyone else was talking about?
