Privacy for Young Adults

At what age do you allow your child privacy in his or her own room? When do you begin knocking on their door before entering? Do you enter when the child is not home?

If your child is financially dependent on you, regardless of their age, does that give you a right to suspend privacy?
If you had an adult child living with you for a short time (on breaks from college, in between apartments, for holiday visits) what sorts of rules would you impose on them? Is it your house your rules? Or are they adults who can take care of themselves? Would they have more privacy than a teenager living with you, or someone living full time in your home?
