your older elementary school kid comes home one day and tells you that they, along with about a dozen others of their gender, were singled out for "underwear inspection" due to several incidents of poop being found on the gym floor. your kid says when he/she protested, they were told to do it because all of those selected for the strip search had ( Read more... )

I'd expect to see the person who made the order to do this sacked, the people who carried it out disciplined, and the processes that led to it being possible changed.

I'd make my displeasure known, but I would not sue, demand compensation (wtf), or demand prosecution. I don't know that it was child abuse, but it sure was a bad idea. I would expect and request that policies be put firmly in place to prevent it from happening ever again.

If they were unwilling to call this a Very Bad Idea, I guess we could consider leaving the school. But then again, I have boys and I just can't see them being this embarassed or bothered about it and if it's the only thing about school I'm hating, I would chalk it up to some Very Bad Judgement that must never happen again. Maybe I just say this because I really like our school. At a school I hated this might be the icing on the cake to make me walk.

I am not sure if it can be considered abuse--that's why I put it as an option and used the tag with the question mark. I personally think it's borderline abuse to bully elementary students into an underwear inspection but others may not agree.

I honestly wouldn't care at all. Shit carries germs, it doesn't matter if its from a kid or adult, shit is nasty and has no place on a public floor.

You wouldn't care about the fact that your kid was bullied into strip-searching over something that I'm sure they did not do? WOW.

That is what I wrote dudester. My kid's shit could be carrying some horrifying diseases, the only place it should end up is in the toilet.

first of all, i'm not a "dude". second of all, why are you assuming your kid is guilty?

Pretty much all of it. Although compensation isn't that big of thing in England.

Thing that gets me the most is all the kids were one gender? Pretty sure both boys and girls have accidents. And you can pretty much tell if a kid has pooped themselves without making them strip.

the accused were of both genders. they were just separated by gender for the forced strip search--boys taken to one room, girls taken to another.
