I didn't vote for Obama and never would. But if the president of the united states wants to address the children of the nation, that's fabulous. I do think schools should be required to watch it. And if it were a conservative or Republican president doing it, they should be required to watch it then, too. It's about showing respect for the president and respect for the office.
Well said. Whether I voted for the man or not, he is the president. Other presidents have addressed groups of people in the past (including children) and not been censored. This is disgusting, and it is entirely reprehensible that people are treating the office of President this way. Anyone who says he shouldn't be allowed or who says they need to vet the speech before they allow their kids to watch should be ashamed. SHAME! SHAME ON YOU!
I don't think there's any problem with wanting to preview it first. We get to preview our school curriculum before school starts if we want. This is pretty much the same thing.
OK. You go ahead and call it a "preview of curriculum".
Other presidents in the past have addressed groups of people - including school children - and their speeches have not been scrutinized, censored, vetted, or called "indoctrination". But you go ahead and say it's because you're involved in your kids' education.
A lot of people would disagree with you on the principle that he hasn't managed to fulfill all of his promises that he made to the US in less than a year.
Yeah, I got nothing. He's black, so he should be able to be super human? IDK.
""Rules For Radicals' explains that if you separate the child from the parent, you can educate(brainwash) the child and then you can win over the parents. How arrogant of him to want to address my children WITHOUT my permission. Who gave the Dept. of Education the right to let him address my children?? NO ONE. Welcome to the socialization of our education system, and the indoctrination of OUR children. How Dare Obama assume he has any rights when it comes to my children. My children will not attend school that day or any other day Mr. Obama wants to talk with them."
Welcome to the socalization of education? lolololololololoollolsdfkasdfh;lkasfd
It's the president. The parent's influence at home is going to be much more commanding in the child's life than a 10 minute or however long speech from a guy they don't see every day and if the parent's are against him, have heard strong views opposing him. It's a fairly non-issue from the way I see it.
I lean a bit conservative myself and I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but I have no problem with ANY president saying "hey kids, stay in school, it's important, here's why". If ANY president (whether I agree with them or not) were to use schools as political platforms, then I would have a big huge problem with that.
