this is not the kidney stone you're looking for...

So, I have no idea how fast news spreads among my friends and chosen-family, but I wanted to set down an update/ heads-up for everyone.  Monday, I went home with what I thought was a kidney stone... it had all the right symptoms, right down the line.  I laid down for a few hours, but when the pain got worse, not better, I went to my local urgent ( Read more... )

Oh my god! I'll take your word for the fact that it's not something to worry about (and yes, SO GLAD IT'S NOT CANCER) but you can't stop us fretting a bit, can you?

*hugs* Thanks, Sallymn :) I appreciate all good thoughts winging my way, for sure. But please, don't stress over it - I do plenty of that on my own! I was checking out uterine fibroids online, and they're the most common non-cancerous tumors women get. To be sure, I feel perfectly justified calling this thing an Alien Baby, because it's that big. But the OB said I might not even need surgery, because my periods seem to be consistent and well-controlled. I'm on the fence about that... it's big enough that it's probably pressing on internal organs or nerves, and obviously, when it flares, it causes pain... but I suspect 'shrink the thing' is going to be our first option. Which is a course of drugs.

Again, we'll see. But thanks so much for worrying for me - just don't worry too much!

Cool if they can shrink it with drugs!

Mine were pressing on the tubes going from the kidneys to the bladder, and causing mild backup. (Mild Hydronephrosis.)

I still techincally have my fibroids, they've just shrunk down. And now on the sonogram (or the last one at least) I could see the spot where the device went in to burn out the blood flow to the fibroid. It's kinda' cool, because one of my fibroids looked like it had a face, and now it's got this spot where the Acessa tool went through its 'eye', and it looks all hurt and pathetic. Hahahahaha.

PS I had thought that if I had any procedure where they removed my fibroids, I'd ask to have them preserved in a jar, and I'd tell folks I had named the fibroids.

So have you thought of a name for yours?

And some lady in my pottery class, (C) she had a huge ovarian cyst. It wasn't causing her pain, and she had a vacation planned that she had been looking forward to, so the gyn decided to just leave the cyst until after vacay. Well C said that the last week, she really did look pregnant. She was just waiting for folks to ask her delivery date, and what gender the baby was. Because then she'd tell them it was a cyst, and she was going to hug it and squeeze it and name it George.

I laughed until I coughed.

*grins* I had to think on this after you asked. I finally decided if it was an Alien Baby, I should call it 'Shatner', lol.

I'll be sure to keep everyone up to date. I think I will end up getting a hysterectomy - I'm pretty much over having periods. Mine aren't horrible, although the OB said they are heavier than norm, based on our discussion. Otoh... meh. So. Over. Them.

I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.
