There's a street in San Francisco called 'Hotaling.' It always reminds me of your user name.

More books! kiteherb July 14 2004, 07:07:44 UTC
I noticed you're planning on a natural childbirth with a nurse midwife--**applause!!** I hope it goes smoothly for you.

Another book to add to your already lengthy reading list, if you haven't read it already--Baby Catcher, by Peggy Vincent. (I went through a lot of pregnancy/childbirth books while Lauren was on her OB/GYN rotation.) It's true accounts of births attended by a nurse midwife, and it's a great read. The author talks about hard births and easy ones, but the over-arching theme is very childbirth-positive.

On the other hand, Naomi Wolf's Misconceptions was kind of a downer. If you're looking for some negative experiences of traditional hospital births and post-partum depression, it's also a good read, but not something I would pick up at 6 months unless I was looking for that sort of viewpoint.

thank you! i'm very excited about all of it, and i hope everything goes as planned--but i'm trying to not become too attached to my plan, because i know how i get if something doesn't go the way i wanted it to. so, keeping an open mind and planning on trusting my body to tell me what's necessary--and i'm not afraid of what's to come, which i think is the most important aspect of my outlook. thank you for the book recommendations--one i'll pass right back atcha is ina may's guide to childbirth--i got so wrapped up in the accounts that i stayed up reading 'til 3 in the morning and then had dreams about being in labor (which, even though the labor wasn't scary or bad or anything, is a bad thing, 'cause it's way too early to make my body think i'm in labor!).
