Yup, you interpreted correctly. Not only was it amazing that it was sung, the vocals were excellent, and it was so ... appropriate ... after a show (Idol Gives Back) that was all about caring for the widows and orphans and needy. God was the first to ever care for them, and it's so right to end the show with a huge acknowledgement of Him! I was really excited.
Have already seen a bunch of controversy though. "American Idol is turning religious!" Whatever. They did a song from Rent earlier in the show. American Idol hits both ends of the spectrum. Kind of like The Simpsons.
It is in such a strange context on AI. It's not really "testimony," like you said ... I think I would put it in the category of "the rocks crying out," and with that, letting myself be convicted about my own lack of praise. Does that make sense?
