Move to Canada!

LMAO!

Become a Canadian!

I didn't just talk about it, I actually DID move up to Canada after the last U.S. election. Of course, it was more for the ghey marriage, but I've certainly disliked a lot of what I've seen down south of the border. Equally scary is all the 1984 stuff happening in the UK, too. (Seriously, Brits, the situation in V for ( Read more... )

Having adopted a new country have you gone the whole hog and now sound Canadian?

Yup! Using "eh" came quite naturally to me, and now I'm even pronouncing the 'a' sound like they do in Ottawa, so my "drama," "pasta," and "Mazda" all sound different than how they pronounce them in the States. lol

So you are pronouncing Nissan (as in cars) as *Nis* (like *THIS*), and *an* (like *another*), because I found most Californians (and they're weirder than most Americans) pronounced it Neeesun.

Now on to spelling. Are you a +u boy or a why bother American?

Colour v color
aeroplane v airplane
aluminium v aluminum
moustache v mustache
mum and mummy v mom and mommy
speciality v specialty

Do you spell your words with -ise as an ending or -ize?

I haven't heard much of the Neeesun-type speak as of yet. I think most of southern Ontario uses a fairly neutral accent, similar to some of the western U.S. States (I grew up in the western U.S., which is probably why no one thinks I have an accent here.) I'm torn on the use of -ize and -ise, mostly because I can't remember which way is which anyhow. lol

As for the additional 'u' in words, I most certainly do use them! As some have said, I prefer putting the 'u' in honour. :-D

A lot of people don't know that Canada has it's own style of English.

I certainly hope you're correct in saying that Harper's days are numbered. I fully blame him on bringing about too-early elections in his bid for Conservative supremacy. The fact that he brought up the vote again on Gay Marriage already makes me hate him (do *not* fuck with my family), but many of the other proposals he's brought up are out-right pandering to crazy religious folk or greedy corporations such as the Canadian versions of the RIAA and MPAA. Not to even mention how every time Flaherty opens his mouth I want to punch him and I don't like Prentice at all ( ... )
