That's Eleven Hours, Not Counting Between-Disc Breaks

Yesterday some of the other ALTs and I got together to watch all three LotR Extended Edition DVDs, back-to-back-to-back. A projector was involved. Envy me.

Having finally seen the extra footage for RotK, I can only say OMG MOUTH OF SAURON BLING-BLING.

And I'm still waiting for Extra Special Editions in which Gimli gets his dignity back, but all ( Read more... )

nerf-herding, pop goes the synapse, geekgasm, gimli fan and proud

I have the Holiday Special on bootleg DVD. Don't make me whip out the screencaps. :D

But yes, Diahann Carroll mentally masturbating Chewie's grandfather is one of the most disturbing things about the special, in adittion to Jefferson Starship's "Phallus of Light" and a REALLLLLLLLLLLY~ coked-up Carrie Fisher attempting to sing. And in a different sense of disturbing, you also have the "support the Telephone Company because if America has more than one long-distance provider we'll fall to the pinko commies" ads.

Ooh, where'd you get that bootleg DVD? I've been trying to snag the whole Holiday Special on various file-sharing servies for years, and this fifty-minute stretch is the most I've ever found.

My copy cuts out just after Jefferson Starship's number, so I haven't heard Ms. Fisher's musical extravaganza yet. She appeared to be several miles high in her earlier scene, though, so I can only imagine what her singing voice is like.

I got it from a newsgroup. It's not posted up anymore. I could always transfer it to you if you have a lot of time and a couple of gb free.

I might take you up on that later. I'm not sure I'm ready for that much badness yet. Must pace myself.

AH HA! But do you have the original companion album "Christmas in the Stars"? Yet another reason that my collection of eclectic crap makes the geeks go "SQUEEE!!!"

There was an album? I'm torn between sick fascination and horrified weeping.

I had a Tetris-clone open to the right of the video. Trust me, some things should not be sat through without a ready distraction.

That's why I always bring writing utensils and materials to a meeting. Poor pencil sketches are my best friend. I also keep said utensils in my pocket, just in case I end up somewhere really boring. Pens can write on many surfaces if proper writing material (paper, cardboard, etc.) is not available, and both pen and pencil can engage the creative mind in hours of acrobatic entertainment. Also, in a pinch, either can be used to gouge out the eyeball of the bore (I seem to recall bore can be a noun in this fashion).

I draw during class when the JTE is wandering off on a grammar lecture and I've got nothing to do. I've gotten pretty good at balancing a flimsy textbook with a sheet of scrap paper on it in such a way that no one can tell what I'm doing-- which is important, since half the time I'm practicing head-and-shoulders anatomy by sketching my listless students.
