If I remember correctly, it was that they didn't want to run the 2 hour pilot. They wanted a one hour show to test the waters, so Joss and Co. had to write the second pilot in one weekend. :-)

yup thats right, so then train job is ep 1 and you have no idea how they all came together or any of the war history stuff.
