As soon as he starts talking about how to properly Incept the idea into Fischer, it makes me all wibbly. Also makes me wonder how the team would have gone about it if Eames hadn't mentioned that idea. :O

I absolutely ~adore the scenes where he's outlining the plan to all of them and Arthur's like "OMG HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THIS I LOVE YOU". :3 It's all so ~clever and I too wonder how they would have done it without Eames' ideas. :D

I agree with you on all counts, pretty much. I in NO WAY think Eames should be portrayed as some dumbass who can't spell and dresses only in paisley. I don't get where that came from, honestly.

I think it was the "maths never was my strong point" bit, mostly, and the "how's your spelling?"-"piss off" exchange between Cobb and Eames. :| I just keep seeing the kinda-stupid!Eames trope coming up again and again in fanfic and it sort of pisses me off because he's easily one of the smartest in the entire movie. >:|

I love that combo, too, because it looks ~gorgeous on him, but my favourite is the blue/purple/brown one. ♥__♥ It just looks so silky and that ~collar nggh...

I feel the same way about everyone portraying Arthur as extremely uptight and pretentious. :/ But in a way, I suppose we only have a limited amount of material to work with, so I understand that fic writers and the like need to take some liberties sometimes.

I think this sort of stereotyping happens a lot within fandom -- it happened a ridiculous amount within the Torchwood fandom, and happens a little within the Supernatural fandom. I'm not entirely sure why everybody portrays Arthur as anal and uptight, but I guess it could be to do with the three-pieces suits and orderliness (as in, he's the point man that does the research and puts together the files) and possibly his reactions to Eames.

I can definitely see the Inception fandom doing what the Torchwood fandom did -- creating fanon that pretty much ends up superceding the canon. :/ I'm not too excited about that happening, although it already seems to have taken hold (e.g. Eames' totem being a poker chip). :(

Oh, and just to let you know, I'm memming this post. :)

I'd love to hear more about Eames from Christopher Nolan (or Tom Hardy), e.g. about his upbringing and family. But on the other hand this lack of knowledge leaves much to play with for us in fandom. I guess we should be careful with our assumptions about him (or any other character, tbh). People tend to exaggerate things and features and here we are with super anal Arthur and almost manwhore Eames. But this is part of fandom, I guess. And btw, I came across a lot of fics in which Eames was all witty and smart, thankfully. Can't imagine that somebody could write him as stupid or something. I mean, THAT would be stupid.

The creation of fanon within fandoms is both fascinating and slighly annoying. After a while there's very little that's fresh and the same old tropes get trotted out time and time again. :| It takes a skilled writer to get characterisation right; it's one of the reasons I consider writing fanfic to be an art in its own right. :)

I'm just rolling around in all the fic this fandom is producing; there's so much that I think everybody's tastes are catered for, thankfully! I've read several fics where he's really clever ( Das Vorbewusste, which I recced further up in the post, is a prime example of this and possibly my favourite so far :3).

THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE EAMES LOVE IN THIS FANDOM. Srsly, how come nobody's done a post like this before? :( I want a giant Eames!party-post where everybody just spams the hell outta it with Eames pics and macros and .gifs and fic. ♥__♥

Oh God, yes, Eames. ♥ Why is he so awesome and brilliant and gorgeous. I've been wondering myself about the "we tried it, but it didn't take" line, especially because I love backstory. Obviously Cobb and Arthur have history with Eames, but I don't think they go back as far as some think. I like to believe Cobb, Mal, and Arthur were a team way back when, and maybe they did a job with Eames once or twice, but for the most part let Eames do his own thing. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy to stay in one place or hang with the same people for too long (because of the nature of his work, haha), so he probably jumped from team to team before settling in Mombasa for whatever reason. Cobb probably stayed in some sort of contact with him just because he knows Eames is the best

The clothing in Inception practically made me drool, I swear, and I'm not normally fussed about clothing in films -- or fashion in general, tbh. It's all so gorgeous and impossible to date, and the costume designer, Jeffrey Kurland, said that all of it was designed specifically for the movie and tailored to fit the characters both physically and emotionally. Awesome, y/y? :D

Ohgod, yes. I don't care how tacky Eames' suits look, they still look amazing on him. It's like, only he could pull off that look. Just imagine if he tried to start his own fashion line. Arthur would head/desk and tell him to stop trying to spread his horrible (ie, beautiful) sense of fashion to the world. XD

That's the thing; Eames' clothes would look terrible on anybody but him (although I still maintain that the only thing that yellow shirt deserves is death by burning :3) -- I think it's just Tom Hardy, tbh. xD
