Asking because ignorance. Does LJ ever do this without warning mods, or is this always the active doing of mods? (I mod or co-mod several due South comms and Canadian Six Degrees comms on LJ, and I'm wondering if my comms could be made to disappear without my say-so.)

The LJ error message when I went to the comm's profile was that the blog was deleted by the moderator. Blogs can be deleted by site admin but only after warnings to the mods and for a documented reason that violates this site's rules. That's my understanding anyway.

Oh it's bad enough when individuals do this, but a comm is different because other people will have stuff posted there, and things like comments and conversations won't be anywhere else. The least they could have done was let everyone know so you could download/copy stuff if you wanted to. Yep rude!

Exactly. There are links to old fics and art pieces that are now lost for good, not to mention the conversations that existed there in it's heyday. Unforgivable.
