January was BEASTLY. Just awful... I'm trying to scrub it from my mind, really... So, draycevixen's challenge to post about something you love EVERY DAY IN FEBRUARY seemed like a nice and worthwhile antidote to all of that. Also, I need to get back into the flow of things here - I've fallen behind on so much ( Read more... )

I don't think I've ever seen any of Giraud's illustrationso before. They're lovely. I can see why they'd be an inspiration.

He did many wonderful things. He illustrated comic books, he did some Tintin stuff, he made his own books, he was a concept designer (most obvious examples are the original TRON film and the Fifth Element), he did animation... He was simply amazing.

What a fabulous artist. Thank you - I don't know his name or his work - how have I managed to miss him so completely?

LOL! Well, he was French for one thing... In North America it's REALLY HARD to get access to his work because so little of it was translated. I've actually bought many books and comics that I can't read (my French is remedial) just so I could look at the artwork.

Thank goodness for the internets! My education has vastly improved since I've been able to follow links and discover new things.

And you remind me of a friend's mum - she fell desperately in love with a long-dead Italian nobleman, and taught herself mediaeval Italian in order to find out all about him.

Oh! I did something similar... I fell in love with an Italian comic book artist and found one of his books here in a second hand shop, so I researched as much basic Italian that I could in a short amount of time because I HAD to know what the story was about. Foreign comic books, man... It gets worse when you fall in love with artists from the former Eastern Block *facepalm*

There's no way in hell the Æon Flux team didn't know his work.

Exactly. When it comes to sci fi visions, everyone owes a debt of thanks to Giger, Moebius, and Ridley Scott because they steal from them all the time.
