I'm so enjoying getting to know you better :-D Adventurer! Crafter! Fly-killer!!!

:-D

I wondered for like 5 minutes about straight women writing gay romance/erotica. Then I decided it was fun, and (more importantly) it was hot. Even when it's not porny, it's hot. And romantic. Like unicorns.

Unicorns are hot and romantic?

I'm a new-ish convert to slash - in the beginning I just didn't see the point. But once I realized that there were interesting ways to write romantic stories that aren't obviously romantic, I became hooked. Oddly, I don't see myself as writing about homosexuality or championing it in any way. I don't really have a stake in that. The only reason why this idea of new minority victimization has arisen is because there are well documented stats that say overwhelmingly that straight women not only consume most written gay porn in fandom, but they are by far the most prevalent creators of it. I'm not sure what all of the gay male fans are out there doing... *ahem* The gay community has a pretty strong voice - I don't think that they need to be defended from a gaggle of middle-aged, het broads who are rediscovering their rights to sexual identity and creative expression. To me, those stats are far more interesting for what they say about straight women's sexual appetites and what they are doing with the porn i ( ... )

Perhaps not unicorns themselves, but the idea of the romance and all :-D Real unicorns mean a lot of glitter to clean up all the time.

Absolutely, the stuff women write is ALL about the relationships and circumstances/events. The porn is the icing :-) Can I read PWP? Can I write PWP? Sure on both counts. But even there, because we use established characters, there is already an inherent relationship, even is the PWP story itself never develops it. The sex is never without context and meaning. And THAT is what women (largely) prefer. Get me caught up in the interaction, and then the sex is thrilling. Leave me detached, and I don't care if they fuck a duck.

Wasn't that the tailor in the fairy tale? "Seven with one blow!" but they didn't know he meant flies :-)

So is the point of that gay porn article that I should only write what I have personal experience with? It would sure be limiting if authors were restricted that way. I hate that kind of stuff, I really do.

Flies! I've been on a hunting expedition myself today. I'm not inundated like you, but even one fly constantly dive-bombing my computer is one too many. Death to all flies!!

I think it's funny that Root is part of the team now. I just finished season two of POI and she's still got the villain vibe going on. Need to put season three on the queue.

Excellent list! #4 is especially awesome, because that's not me at all. Drop me in a strange location and all they're finding later are my bones, curled up in the fetal position. LOL!

The article was exploring the sociological implications of het women writing gay porn, rather than condemning them for it, but I always feel that the condemnation is a bit implied in these sorts of articles anyway. If we're doing such a damned disservice to gay men, then they should get on in here with us and set the record straight (so to speak). It's like RL BDSMers who rant and rave about what a horrible example of BDSM Fifty Shades of Grey was (and it was), but all they did was yell and point - they didn't get vocal about better options or take on the challenge of showing mainstream fandom a thing or two about the culture. I don't have much respect for people who just bitch but refuse to do. Things change when you show up, ya know ( ... )

I feel you. So many people complain and point fingers and rail against the unfairness, but that's all they do. Change doesn't get made that way. If it did, I'd be sitting pretty right about now. ::winks::

Wow, evil fly-killing face! I like it!

I could probably do okay in a #4 situation. I always think I can't, until I'm forced to and then it seems to work out. I'm glad you have the confidence to MAKE SHIT HAPPEN! I need an infusion of that.

It's not so much confidence as necessity. I don't consider myself excessively confident but I find that people in general hate making decisions, so you have to step in a some point and do that or nothing will ever get done.

We've had a bunch of mosquitoes in our building this week and I've been terminating them with extreme prejudice.

I haven't seen POI yet. :(

I like what I like and I always have, ever since I was a little kid. *shrugs*

It's a fabulous five. ♥

POI is on waaay too late for my tastes. I must be getting old...

It was really hard coming up with 5 points. I think I've taken the idea of being modest about personal accomplishments too far.

MG wants me to wait and watch it with him. He's currently getting up at 5:00am to get to work early so by 10:00pm he just wants to be winding down with a good book.

At 10pm I spontaneously turn into a very sarcastic pumpkin. There's an actually *POOF* sound and glitter and everything.

Yep! Last minute... get this: after his weekly shinny game. So, after driving me around all day to be interviewed by CBC, go to the yearly Japanese Paper Place WAREHOUSE SALE, and to the pre-show party at MaRS, RJH dropped Monkeytoes with Mom then went to play hockey, followed by more hockey. Because, apparently, he cannot have too much hockey.
