I mentioned to junglemonkee earlier today that I was avoiding twitter like like a big scary alien who sucks your brains to the point where you can only think in 140 characters or less. She explained that that wasn’t likely to happen, and that twitter is useful for posting items that are too short to blog, which makes sense ( Read more... )

i certainly don't manage to quip evocatively in 160 characters or less on a regular (or even semi-regular) basis and i still do okay. i am pretty sure you could and would exceed my low bar for twitter-worthiness. there is only one junglemonkee and that bar is very, very high.

Thank you for your thoughts. I like the idea of following friends and all that. And true, I can always delete it. :)

I've joined, though I don't have it set up for my phone yet. I'm not sure I want it beeping at me throughout the day.

I find it much easier to post on twitter than on livejournal, because I don't need a properly thought-out post. Which means a lot of my tweets are inane, but I quite like that.

I love refreshing to see what people are posting but another good thing is that if you follow various 'interesting people' whether celebs or agents, for example, they tend to post quite frequently. It's not like LJ where the number of friends vs. people you watch tends to be fairly close. Half of the people I follow will never follow me back, but I simply don't care. There are no hurt feelings.

In other words, I'm a convert! I use it to talk to people I work with, people from at least two sets of online communities, to read tv bloggers/critics, and to stalk (ahem. read.) celebs!

I can see that. There's definitely something nice about the short format. It requires a different kind of creativity, a conciseness of language. As my friend points out, it can kind of be like haiku.

I've decided to join and see where that gets me. I'm at #AndreaBlythe, if you want to follow, and I'll follow you, too.
