I mentioned to
junglemonkee earlier today that I was avoiding
twitter like like a big scary alien who sucks your brains to the point where you can only think in 140 characters or less. She explained that that wasn’t likely to happen, and that twitter is useful for posting items that are too short to blog, which makes sense.
My reluctance to join, however, is continuing to mount into a kind of paranoia for reasons that I can’t quite figure out. (And yes, I’m fully aware of the ridiculousness of my paranoia, as well as this post. It’s okay, you can mock me.)
I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that when I find a new (to me) shiny social networking website to join, I get really excited about it and become obsessed. Then, there I am checking back every other minute to see if someone has posted something new, responded to something I posted, or whatever else it is you do on that site. I’m not sure I have time for that kind of obsession.
Also, it seems like all the cool kids hang out on twitter, i.e. the above mentioned friend and other friends, who write short snappy funny things, and I’m not sure that I’m cool enough to join them. Can I come up with clever insights about life, the universe, and everything in 140 characters or less? Maybe.
But despite my reluctance, I keep seeing more and more how cool twitter could be. There are some very cool and amusing people I could follow, and other friends keep pointing out news stories and creative projects on twitter that seem like they would be fun to participate in.
So, since I can still can’t make up my mind, maybe you can help make up my mind for me. Besides, I like polls.
