Haillie is one of the foster girls who lives next door. She has borrowed tons of my DVDs over the course of the summer. Everything form Angel to SGA to Starsky & Hutch to Supernatural. I tried to sell her on the joys of Due South but so far she hasn't bitten. Although at 15 it's probably not cool enough. Part of why she has borrowed so many ( Read more... )

Saying I'm proud of you isn't right; it's not my place to be proud of you and it sounds smug, besides, or at least officious, but...

the fact that you take time to interact in a positive, friendly way with a young woman who may not have always had the best opportunities, interactions and role models, as is often the case of kids who've ended up in long-term foster care?

Makes me admire you.

Aww shucks, thanks. My neighbors have run a foster group home for close to 30 years, at one time fostering nine girls at a time. To hear their stories is often harrowing. So much abuse and neglect in the world. Although some of it simply bad parenting and out of control teenagers. Sometimes I'm able to form a bond with one or two of the girls and I get so much out of it because I can feel helpful and also because it's a reminder of just how lucky I've been in my life.

I figure if having Hallie come over on Thursday nights to watch Supernatural makes her life a little happier it's hardly an imposition.

Can't wait! Squeee!!

Jury duty is fun, IMO. I think it's very cool. I'd do it again anytime. And I love your county clerk for understanding. They rock!

It's not like they're going to put me in jail. I guess technically they could fine me or something, but I think they've got better things to do. Plus, I did call. I've never been called for jury duty before so to be honest I'm kind of excited. I'll probably get a traffic ticket case, but I don't mind.
