So, I was going to post a whole ranty thing about stupid men who say stupid things and behave like creeps, and stupid straight people who say stupid homophobic things, and how much I hate the phrase "just happens to be gay" without being able to put my finger on why I hate it ( Read more... )

In my experience, cats are the very most easiest. My cat does his thing, I do mine, occasionally we meet on the sofa for a cuddle. I'm... not the biggest fan of the idea of house cats, but I think that as long as they have stuff to do/play with and something to scratch then they're probably totally happy.

I have a balcony, so a cat could play out there, but I also live on a busy road - playing out *there* would lead to squished cat :(

yeah, I was thinking a rescue cat, we have lots of places around here. Plus, I lived with a rescue cat for a while once, and he was lovely, if twitchy (terrified of oven gloves)

My older cat (15) spent the first 12 years being indoor/outdoor (mostly out) until we brought her back to texas then it was almost entirely in, and then when I took her it was completely in (3rd floor, illegal pet, very busy five lane road. She adjusted fine, especially when I started letting her go out pretty much 24/7 on the balcony.

My kitten came from a farm, and once she figured out where the door was would try to get out (it's a game for her). At my new apt. I could let her out, but I move around too much and I don't want to encourage her getting out. Right now she's attacking my christmas tree like she did last year (I say kitten, she's about 18 months). They both do fine completely indoors. I provide food, water, clean litter, petting and they're happy.

My little one makes me happy; I go to work for 12 hour shifts, come home and they're happy to see me, the younger one will cling and chirp at me when I walk through the door.

Aw! I think that's part of why I want a cat so much more suddenly - it'd be nice to come home to something that was happy to see me :)

Your talk of all that fic makes me want my internet installes even more! I'm missing so much and my supid BT engineer didn't turn up yesterday to install my phone line, so more delay :( you'll have to remind me to raid your masterlist when I get back online :)

I like cats. I am highly allergic to cats, but I like cats. I think that, if you still want one after xmas, go for it! :)

BT engineers suck :( They never turn up on time.

All the fic is secret santa style, and most of it isn't due till nearly Christmas, so it'll be a while before it goes anywhere, I think :)

I've been wanting a cat for a while, too. But my apartment is firmly against animals and children, so it's either move or live without. (I am actually thinking about moving, yeah. *g*)I think that indoor cats can be just as happy as outdoor cats. That's been my experience, anyway. But I would suggest either an old cat, who doesn't want to move much anymore, or a kitten who has never had the pleasure of killing frogs in the grass. Also, boy cats tend to be a lot more loving than girl cats. They've more cuddly, I've found, and less bitchy.

I think not deciding until after Christmas is a good idea. But then, if you're still longing for one, explain that to your landlord. They're usually just worried about spraying, scratching, that kind of stuff, but if the animal is spayed/neutered, they won't spray, and you can easily stop them from wrecking things.

The people in the flat below me have a cat, so I plan to use that as my argument (I think they have a different landlord, but feh, it's still a good argument).
