A Solemn Duty

For the past several weeks, I have found myself consumed with a conundrum, paralyzed with a rare case of indecision as I deliberate all the issues under consideration. I see more than one viable option available to me, with each candidate possessing, in my estimation, plenty of assets and flaws. The burden of responsibility is heavy--I want to ( Read more... )

I'm sensing Tim Burton love! :) I would also vote for Corpse Bride. And WOW you must have some mad pumpkin carving skills! I'm limited to plain old Jack o'Lanterns myself.

I'm a big fan of Tim Burton, and have been ever since Beetlejuice! Besides, if there's any holiday that belongs to his unique aesthetic, it's Halloween. :D

I do love pumpkin carving, so I'm always looking for a new challenge to tackle--after all, I only get to practice once a year. These are the pumpkins I carved last year.

Those pumpkins are amazing. Halloween seems to be catching on here, but it certainly isn't as huge as in the US.

BTW - I voted for Jack Sparrow. A pirate with a big pointy cutlass. :p

Thank you! Pumpkin carving is the one Halloween activity I try to do every year, even when I can't participate otherwise. It is a big thing here--it was actually always my favorite holiday, even beyond Christmas, because I've always had a very strange attraction for the dark and the ghoulish, not to mention a fascination with costumes.

Ooh, Jack Sparrow! A very good choice. The design I was considering did have an--ahem--large cutlass. ;-)

I am in love with Sweeney Todd so, of course I selected Mr. Todd and Mrs. Lovett. I loved the speech. It had me thinking you were talking about voting for President.

Hee! I'm glad you were amused by the speech. Everybody's talking about the election these days, and I couldn't resist.

I love Sweeney Todd, too! With the white streak in his hair and that straight razor, I thought he'd make an interesting pumpkin.

I remember those photos from last year - I didn't really know you then, and I was totally in awe. I've just carved my very first pumpkin - Jack-o'-Lantern style but with Spock ears, and I'm even more in awe of you now!

Awww, thank you! I just really enjoy the challenge of trying to carve something that I haven't tried before.

I love the idea of a Jack o' Lantern with Spock ears! :D

We have 4 pumpkins to deal with. Right now it's looking like I may be doing an Eye of Sauron and Snape, and then...who knows.

We'll see. It's not like the children (including the one I married) don't have a history of changing the plan half-way through. :P

LOL! Well, improvisational carving can be fun...

I love the idea of an Eye of Sauron. I'd like to do a Snape one, but I've been so busy this year that I haven't had time to create patterns--I might have to go with what I've found, and I don't have a Snape there. Maybe I can adapt a witch pattern... ultimately, I'd like to be able to do a Rickman!Snape pumpkin.

I've never seen a Rita Skeeter pumpkin...

Neither have I, but that would be cool! Between her ringlets, her glasses and her quill, that could be very interesting.
