It's been gloves weather here for a while now and no heating on yet, so I sympathise completely.

And I so know what you mean about trousers. I'm very much in the same situation (5'5'', curvy) and oddly enough, having already given up hope, I found several pairs of very nice (and fitting) ones in the men's department in a sports/outdoors clothes store. Not what I'd have expected, but... Good luck with the hunt, anyway!

Ooh, that's right; you mentioned that. ~thinks warm thoughts for you~ It's that transitory period that's difficult, when it's chill enough to be uncomfortable but early enough that the heating isn't on yet. Not that they ever get the balance of heating and cooling correct in this place anyway, but that's another story. :-P

Thanks for the good wishes! Hmm, I wouldn't mind scoping out the men's department, although at 5'2", length would probably be an issue there as well. I'm very frustrated by the fact that "petite" lengths are still often several inches too long! The other problem is that if the waist fits, the hips are tight, and if the hips fit, the waist is much too large and the legs are baggy.

If I didn't live in a climate with cold weather, I'd probably invest in skirts!

It's been steadily cold here for a month... wish they'd get it already! Grrrr. *sneezes and puts on another jacket*

Length is always an issue, but at least it's one that can theoretically be dealt with if something fits otherwise. (Yes, I know it's a hassle! Do you have a chance to get things shortened in-store? Some places here offer this at least.) And oh do I know about the waist/hips issue - that's why I was so shocked to find things in the men's department. With a shape like this, I really rather would have expected those to be worse than those actually meant for women. But as the ones meant for women are 99.9% low-cut, having hips is not a good idea. Extremely annoying!

Skirts, yes. Probably more practical in the fitting sense, but... skirts! Don't think I've owned one since school.

Yes, it's definitely getting cold here, too. The last several mornings have been freezing, although the problem is that it warms up much later in the day... which is why they haven't turned on the heat yet. But it makes everybody very uncomfortable in the meantime.

Yes, length is a constant hassle. Getting it done in-store here is rare but not unheard of (though it's very common for men); depending on where I go, I might get lucky. If not, I can always hem them myself with some assistance from my mother. There are some catalogs that do free shortening, but that's mainly for casual things, like jeans.

Good point about those low-cut trousers. They really are a pain when you have hips! Frankly, I'm happy to find decent trousers, wherever they might be.

I do have some skirts, but trousers are really much more practical for me, particularly considering the cold weather issue. I had to wear exclusively skirts in school, but I'm not keen on doing it now!

Oh, there's still time toworry about the end of the world. They've only whizzed the particles today. They'll start banging them together in a week or two. THAT's when the world ends.

So I'd better get on with my exchange fic.

Ooh, me too. Although uncertainty about the continued existence of the world does seem like a very good excuse not to bother getting on the treadmill. :-P

Well, bouffant 80's style trousers are supposedly making some sort of comeback in France this season, but I doubt that'll actually be put in practice any time soon. Yay for billowiness, though.

And, happy icon/layout shopping! (btw, you should check out premade_ljs and thefulcrum; there are others but I forget)

Oooh no, not really, are they? Hmm, once something shows up in France, it usually shows up here roughly two years later. I doubt these trousers would make the cut, though; they're just baggy-looking.

I'm having such fun browsing and picking out new things. Thank you so much for the recs! They're some really beautiful stuff there. I'm sure I'll spend my whole evening looking. :-)
