A Glorious Fourth

Jul 05, 2008 12:45

I had a wonderful 4th of July, and hope the rest of you did as well. I had some family and friends over, including the Godkids, and we laughed, listened to music, soaked up the sun, played croquet and lit some sparklers. We stayed out after dark to watch the glittering displays by neighbors whose fireworks were larger, more impressive and ( Read more... )

Hah! I am a total foodie; I don't deny it. I've planned entire vacations around food! :D I don't actually eat a lot, and in fact, I'm notorious for forgetting to eat for a day or more when I'm preoccupied with something else, but what I do eat, I really like to enjoy. Frankly, if there isn't something the appeals to me, I'm just not hungry. Strange, isn't it?

A quiet day with reading and air conditioning sounds very good to me! I like having my family and friends around me, but I must admit that also cherish those lovely quiet times after they've all gone home, too. :D

Ha! Do you think Severus would let a little thing like heat stroke stop him? Probably not! Then again, you're talking to somebody who's actually walked around in 80-degree heat wearing a black turtleneck sweater. I really do wear black more often than not, for a few simple reasons: 1) it goes with almost everything, 2) it looks good on me and 3) it packs a punch. I also loathe short sleeves, although there are exceptions. Summer clothing is so not my bag ( ... )

I want that cake! And the rest of the menu sounds very tempting too.

As to the other thing... I won't speak a word for fear of jinxing it, but... ~bounces~

Eeee! I hope you enjoy it. I'm working on it right now, and there's very little left to polish. It just took off after I looked up at the stars last night and realised that my idea wasn't a drabble, it was a story.

Thank you for the cake admiration! I was pleased with it, and the rest of the menu came out well, too. The grilled tomatoes in the salad were particularly delicious; it really brought out their natural sweetness.

Oh, wow, that cake looks delicious! And so pretty too :) Did you manage to get some nice clothes? I got a few bits and pieces - I seem to have spent a lot for not very much - and I'm still not sure what to wear for my first day at work tomorrow, lmao. Did get a lovely linen dress though (and of course, the weather has turned from sunny to absolutely dreadful, rain and wind and thunder. Just my luck!)

Thank you! It was a yummy cake. I got lucky, finding all those super-ripe berries.

I found a few nice things, but on the whole, I was a bit disappointed. There's so much sleeveless or cap-sleeved stuff! That's great for people who like it, but I'm not one of them. I found a pretty linen tunic, though, and one great Indian-style duster jacket that I'll be able to wear with a variety of things.

I did also find some nice cropped trousers--or, as I like to call them, 'trousers that I don't have to hem.' ;-)

Good luck with tomorrow! You're going to be a star. :D Hope the weather's less disgusting!
