Last night was Dad's birthday, so I brought over the birthday cake I made earlier in the week (pictures below, not that it's much to look at) and was prepared to help Mom make a dinner menu that we'd worked out earlier in the week, drawn from my favorite French cookbook. Your cake isn't ugly. It looks old-fashioned yummy, made with love. Sounds like an overwhelming success with your dad. The meals you made sounds sumptuous as well. Cooking under duress, perhaps?

Thank you! Yeah, you're right about the cake being old-fashioned. I'm a huge fan of old-fashioned, rustic, retro baking, and I'm definitely a taste over appearance kind of girl.
