Try to contain your shock

But I actually wrote something and posted it this morning. For the first time in months, I feel capable of stringing two sentences of fiction together, which is frankly a relief. I think Azkatraz has done me a tremendous amount of good in terms of jump-starting my creativity and reinvigorating me. There was just such enthusiasm, so many ( Read more... )

No squicking here. I love that pairing. They adore each other in canon, I've decided.

Excellent! I definitely agree that the pairing has potential. I always felt that they had chemistry in canon, and on my first reading of DH was dismayed at McGonagall's parting words to Snape. Yet on balance, I think you can read the viciousness of her attack as being motivated as much by hurt and disappointment that Severus has (apparently) turned out to be so different from the man she thought he was. I suspect that after the complete truth came out, she would have felt deep regret, and quite possibly anger and resentment toward both Snape and Albus, that neither of them trusted her enough to disclose the truth to her.

I feel that letting McGonagall think the worst may have been one of the hardest things Snape had to do that last year. The petty way they compete about House points in the earlier books shows, to me, that they really like and respect each other as colleagues, and feel solid working together. Also the way they smoothly work in tandem to gang up on Lockhart. I remember at Terminus, some folks were saying how they wished they could have seen Snape tell Voldemort "I've been against you all this time." But what I really wish I could have read in canon is what Hermione, Ron, and McGonagall said when they learned what Snape had been doing.

I couldn't agree with you more. I remember vividly telling other fans at the time that I actually found Snape's death, horrible as it was, to be easier to read than Snape's flight from Hogwarts. The Sacking of Severus Snape chapter was a very painful thing to make myself read, because the injustice of it rankles. From their perspective, the reactions of McGonagall and the others are rational and justified (to their eyes, he is a murderer and traitor), and yet the reader knows (or suspects) how little Snape deserves this treatment. Being driven from a place that was once his sanctuary, hearing himself reviled and condemned by his former colleagues and teachers... at that point, my sympathy for him was acute. The year he spent in that position must have been one of the loneliest and most painful of his life, with only the portraits for companionship ( ... )

Thank you! I must admit that I wrote this piece with you and Droxy in mind, so I'm doubly delighted that you liked it. :-)

*pets* Poor head! I hope you feel better soon! Unsurprisingly, my dear twin, I short-fic-ed Minerva recently, too. That cross-gen panel RULED! Are you finally caught up on sleep yet? I think I am mostly, but we'll see :D

You must have the magic touch! I am feeling much better now, thank you. A combination of food, allergy meds, painkillers and the good old sinus mask seems to have done the trick. ~sigh~ It was so nice not having all those allergy issues in California! As for sleep, I am mostly caught up, although my sleep cycle is still slightly wonky. Definitely getting closer to normal, though.

And yes, the cross-gen panel was great, wasn't it? That was one of the inspirations for this. (The others were Annie's Minerva and Droxy's liking for the pairing.)

Why am I not surprised that you Minerva'd, too? :D I can't wait to read it. Sometimes, I would swear we share a brain. (Speaking of which, are you using it today? Because I'm feeling pretty ditzy. *g*)

And here's another Snape/Minerva fan. I love them together and I'd like to think that they were at least good friends in canon.

Oh, excellent! I had no idea I had so many Snape/Minerva fans on the flist, but this is a pleasant surprise. :D

I, too, have always read them as friends in canon, because their rivalry has a distinctly chummy feel. I don't think that Harry picks up on that--he thinks it's all deadly serious--but for the adult readers that comes through. Plus, as drinkingcocoa points out above (~points up~), they work together so well when they're cornering Lockhart. And I've always adored that lovely moment at the end of OotP, when Snape stops paying attention to Harry in order to welcome Minerva back from St. Mungo's.

Thank you, darling! ~hugs~

I'm very glad to BE writing again, finally. I actually had a moment of fear when I sat down to try and write this, wondering if nothing would come out, but it actually felt very good to be able to sit and write and make the drabbles balance again.
