It's already on your machine, its free and it will let you do some things.
Second, get a drawing pad instead of using a mouse (like the little flat pad that Bob had today). You'll use a pencil like stylus which will be more natural for you than drawing with a mouse (a: I hate mice; b: drawing with a mouse feels backwards to me; c: the pad sets a boundary like a page edge where a mouse can wander all over the desk)
The drawing pads often come with some basic software as well that you can start with before shelling out for the fancier graphics package.

Windows Paint? I have a Mac. I don't recall seeing that on here anywhere, but I'll double check.

When I've seen a Mac in a business setting it was always because the native graphics tools beat the crap out of Windows straight from the box.
