Maybe it knew you were trying to help, or the lack of food/water made it docile enough to be moved safely... in either case, I'm so glad that you got it outside where it belongs.

Ah... the poor thing didn't make it. As near as I could tell, it had been trapped inside my house for about three days, and I only found it because it was weak and collapsed on the bedroom floor. We put it in a box with a bit of water, but it died within thirty minutes.
