Recipe refrence post; Kvass, sourdough and Cholent

I realize that this will be uninteresting to 80% of my f-list. Get stuffed.

I've been thinking about making a Russian rye bread based short beer for an A&S project. It combines several things Ive been gaining an interest in, mainly baking (although I've been avoiding sourdough), and brewing. So looking at the recipes I've decided I might be crazy. ( Read more... )

Sounds cool. I'm certainly willing to try 'em. On another note, if you're interested in A&S stuff, wanna enter Northern Lights next year? It's a real fun time - people *have* to come try your things and talk to you about them. :) I find it's a great way for no-pressure mutual geekery.

That's actually why I'm trying to get myself motivated. I was thinking about entering a subtlety as well based on sugar plate at some point. Not to mention Rach wants a lap loom for weaving...
So I figure if I start experimenting now I can figure out how things work both for the project and how to do the paperwork right for the A&S. But at the same time I want to do it because it looks fun, not for the recognition. *shrugs*
We'll see, eh?

You should pick up the book "nourishing traditions"...it's written by Sally Fallon who I think may have founded the Weston A. Price foundation.

What is A&S?

A&S is the Arts and Sciences section of the SCA, also known as the Society for Creative Anachronism, a historical reenactment group. Basically the A&S is for rewarding and encouraging the people who are doing research on how people actually lived in medieval times to publish within and without the SCA.

Looking at the article I referenced on Kvass it seems like it was written by Sally Fallon, so yes, it probably would be a good plan to pick it up.
