your silence will not protect you

I recently started dividing my time between my company's two different offices, and at the Wednesday office, there is a "free stuff" table in the lunch room. Last week one of the campaigners had dropped off a lot of buttons he'd collected over the years, most featuring chickens and bloody meat. But one of these buttons, the button I took with me ( Read more... )

I read the story and it reminded me of The Handmaid's Tale. The scary thing is I actually STARTED an original fiction about 2 years ago along the same lines - not exactly obviously, my own take on what the future could bring - I need to get back to it and rework it and get it out there. That story scared the CRAP out of me because it's not beyond the realm of possibility ( ... )

Please do link; I want to get her story out there to the broadest audience possible and I want us all to get fired up! There actually ARE t-shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, etc. w/ the heart quote from the story available at zazzle -- link at the bottom of the story.

This is a scary fucking situation. I'm really glad I live in Maryland instead of Virginia, but that doesn't help all of the people in Virginia who are impacted by these kinds of bills. This shit is scary.

OKay, cool bb, I'll see if I can't get a post up tonight with a link to here and her story. I did see the t-shirts etc from the story - those are cool, but I was thinking more of "Your silence will not protect you" - it's such a powerful statement.

And yeah, it's really scary /0\

I do want to say that the TVUS bill in Virginia did pass, but then was pulled (probably under pressure). On the other hand, Utah just made it illegal to have a miscarriage, and places like Alabama and Pennsylvania are considering trans vaginal ultrasound bills of their own.

Small victories, very large setbacks. :(

I go through phases of being involved and on top[ of things and phases of being burned out and aversive toward politics. For one thing, I get really tired of writing to my conservative senators (who are supposed to represent all of us, not just right wingers) and getting form letters back that reiterate their support of whatever I've written to complain about. It just feels pointless.

<-- This to your senators.

I'm so sorry it sucks right now. Even if they never change their minds and actions, your opinions and feelings, at least, are never pointless.
