I recently started dividing my time between my company's two different offices, and at the Wednesday office, there is a "free stuff" table in the lunch room. Last week one of the campaigners had dropped off a lot of buttons he'd collected over the years, most featuring chickens and bloody meat. But one of these buttons, the button I took with me ( Read more... )

I think you should channel it into writing. More stories like ILU-486, which make people think and also have an element of humor, are accessible but also tackle a tough topic or three. It was awesome and does awesome things.

TINY HEARTS IN YOUR CUPCAKES! TINY HEARTS IN YOUR CUPCAKES!

Yes to all this.

The hearts in the story have a message, but these are too tiny to contain even a letter. But that would be awesome.

Amen to all of this. As someone who studies global development and politics, and who goes to rallies and carries signs and writes letters and signs petitions... there's something amazing about being an activist, even though, so many times, things go south and causes fall through and the bad guys win. Because despite the setbacks, at least you're still trying to do something with your life, and at least you're working with people who are just as passionate as you... and on those occasions when progress is actually made - guh, there's nothing like it.

Also, if you don't know this one already - http://www.avaaz.org/en/ - but Avaaz basically owns my soul. There are over thirteen million members, and the numerous important causes they raise money for (one of the most amazing at the moment being smuggling aid into Syria) and petition about - this organization is just incredible. ♥

I'll check them out!

I've been working at a non-profit for over ten years now, and supporting our cause, and I believe in it -- it's just that our cause has nothing to do with these other things that I feel so passionately about. I give my time to one cause and my money to another, but it's really time to focus on giving my heart, as well.

That's so awesome! What is it you're volunteering for? Also -

but it's really time to focus on giving my heart, as well.

- that, there, is a truly awesome sentence. ♥

Lotsa hugs!

I work for an animal protection group. And my job is changing a bit, to do more writing and editing, so that's awesome.

UGH YES TO ALL OF THIS. Except I am not lacking on the rage front. You should see my facebook, omg.

Also when I saw your cut-link text I got really happy and started singing this song and then you quoted this song and I was even happier. Indigo Girls were like my childhood. Also my dad made an Anime Music Video to 'Go' with Astro Boy. It's pretty excellent. Also I want that Audre Lorde button like burning.

I love the Indigo Girls so much. Though you calling it the music of your childhood makes me feel ancient.

Rage against the machine.

I think I know who's getting a button in the mail!

EEEEE REALLY? I would love you forever. Not that I don't already. You know what I mean.

So! Next weekend I'm making chocolate-chocolate, pistachio rosewater and banana peanut butter cupcakes. I am to send you some for that pay it forward thingy. They're not gluten-free, though. Which flavors would you like?

Right now I feel more sick and sad than mad, which is pretty tragic. There are so many awesome, loving, open and caring and respectful people out there that it is dumbfounding how loud those who aren't are. Mander's story had a huge impact on me, but so far it is just to make me think, not do. I need to find a way to DO.

The cupcakes sound like love.

Dude, you have to think before you can do! And sick & sad definitely go w/ the mad. It's an all-around scary story about an all-around scary situation. *huggles*
