Lots o' Recs
I last posted a proper recs post on August 8th. This is what I've come up with since then, minus the emergency recs I made earlier in the week. I swear I've gotten things done besides reading fic and watching vids (it just doesn't look like I could have possibly had time).
Quite a few of the Review Notes are on the short side, but this post took forever to make up! The sad part is that there would be more, but I also started The Passage yesterday and, thanks to a few long car rides, I'm several hundred pages into it. There's more than several hundred still to go; it's a damned long story.

Captain America/Iron Man
An Ever Fixed Mark | seanchai and elspethdixon [Steve/Tony, PG-13, 71.174 words]
Summary: Loki accidentally turns Tony into a woman. Steve is less than thrilled. Hijinks ensue.
Review Note: I've concluded that Tony is quite the angst bunny, and as that seems to be something borne out in canon for this fandom (what little I've gleaned outside the movies), it works for me as a characterization. Tony is cocky and arrogant, has lousy self-esteem and a strong tendency towards depression. It's an interesting mix that manages to come through loud and clear in this case without feeling over the top. Steve's general outlook on life makes for a great foil, although things start off with him still pissed off ('disappointed' in Steve's world) over the Armor Wars. This is set just a bit after that (chronologically, although the time period is the present day) and features a Tony in recovery without all his bridges mended, though the ruins have at least stopped smoldering and reconstruction has begun. Also has some great appearances by other members of the Avengers, notably Jan, Hank, and Wanda. As someone who is still easily confused by the morass of canon available, I found it quite accessible, much of the necessary information being conveyed in-text for readers like me without feeling like excessive exposition.

Review Note: Probably an obvious-to-everyone-else crossover that I didn't think of until this comic came along! Gorgeous illustrations with an amusing Gabriel - this is one that makes me giggle.

Review Note: Jedibuttercup frequently does short, crossover one-shots and I, rather obviously, have been catching up on a few of them. This is another random combination that has interesting connotations and leaves me speculating about story lines.

Summary: Ray knows best. No, seriously, don't argue.
Review Note: All the action in scene is gen, but the overall set-up is Brad/Nate. I love Ray. The dialogue is killer here and lightning fast.

Summary: Ray finds the egg in a run-down shed in a shitty little village suspected of hiding members of the Taliban. (AU)
Review Note: Temeraire fusion. Ray is such a wonderfully bad influence on an impressionable young dragon.

Summary: Arthur suffers from OCD. Eames finds out and tries to play the hero. Or something.
Review Note: I really liked this fic and I think it has a good representation of how obsession can disrupt your life. Mostly I appreciated Eames' POV and his general lack of self-delusion.

Review Note: Arthur used to be known as Cole Sear - a fantastic fusion with The Sixth Sense that I started reading as a WiP and I was particularly pleased to discover had been completed. Throws in some interesting Eames back story and just does a lot of interesting things in the course of exploring what Cole would be like when he was all grown-up.

Review Note: Not a crossover or fusion at all, but a fascinating au. Mind the warnings (D/s elements). John's a bit more prickly here, a bit gruffer, but it fits with his nature.

Summary: Criminals commit crimes, and the Yarders see that justice is served.
Review Note: I want to call this an 'id fic', and since it fits with my id, then it works just fine for me. For those who like a Sherlock with a particularly John protective aspect.

Summary: This was such fun to write! The challenge, in honor of Daniel's birthday, was to write a story about Daniel without using his name.
Review Note: It works! There is, of course, the bad cliche wherein an author refers to their characters too frequently (or at all, in many cases) with descriptors that don't fit the POV or don't fit the character at all: the blond, the archaeologist, and so on. Gategremlyn manages to sidestep that despite never actually using Daniel's name the entire time. Nice!

Summary: Evie could not be certain, but it sounded a great deal like the Ancient Egyptian equivalent of "Oh, no, not again," which struck her as a rather bizarre thing for a newly awakened mummy to say.
Review Note: Poor Daniel! This is both funny and a tad bittersweet, but the end had an overall satisfying vibe to it.

Review Note: Not quite a PWP, it just kind of seems that way once you've read it (definitely in a good way). Interesting characterizations, plenty of amusing banter, and steamy scenes.

Summary: Sequel to Old Metal. Psychics, werewolves and a whole lot of metaphors make up Charles’s morning after meeting Vampire Sheriff Erik Lehnsherr.
Review Note: This is a review note that should be in its own post and far more in-depth than I'm going to do it justice right now. An amazing fic with complex characterizations and their resulting complex relationships, gorgeous imagery, and fascinating world-building and storyline continuance from the prequel. I highly recommend it and wish I had more brain right now to describe to you the depth you can pull out of this piece.

An amazing fic with complex characterizations and their resulting complex relationships, gorgeous imagery, and fascinating world-building and storyline continuance from the prequel. I highly recommend it and wish I had more brain right now to describe to you the depth you can pull out of this piece.
