I took a tumble earlier and we're just making sure everything's in order, it's all fine.

I was at the river because I was taking a walk, and I couldn't sleep. I go there a lot to unwind. The monster came up out of the water, it was too dark, and I wasn't fast enough. It caught me by the arm and crushed it... it wasn't pretty.

I need both hands to be able to do alchemy, and it was holding me by that arm, off the ground.

... I was careless. [There's enough anger at himself in those three words to make it clear he's telling the truth.]
